GDC + AI in Private Dentistry: The 2026 Playbook

AS

Founder & CEO, Pop Hasta Labs

From my perspective, private dentistry is one of the clinical verticals where AI has the most immediate practical impact — consultation notes, referral letters, insurance narratives, treatment plans, consent documentation. Specially in a 4-chair private practice, clinicians easily lose 4 to 5 hours a week to documentation. AI can give most of that time back.

GDC Standards and AI

The GDC’s nine Standards all apply to AI use implicitly. The most directly relevant are: Standard 4 (maintain and protect patients’ information), Standard 1 (put patients’ interests first), Standard 5 (have a clear and effective complaints procedure), and Standard 9 (make sure your personal behaviour maintains patients’ confidence).

Translated to AI use: patient identifiers must stay protected (Standard 4); documentation quality must serve patients, not just efficiency (Standard 1); AI-assisted communications must be accurate and defensible if complained about (Standard 5).

A GDPR-aligned, GDC-ready workflow

Specially for GDC-regulated practices, the workflow that works: voice-note in the consultation, AI transcribes into the practice’s encrypted vault, drafts consultation note in the practice’s format, PHI (NHS number, DOB, name) auto-redacted before any model sees text. Clinician reviews, adjusts for clinical accuracy, signs. Complete audit chain: clinician ID, patient ID, timestamp, source voice-note, draft versions, sign-off.

Apart from this, the same workflow handles referral letters (specialist clinical language with precise terminology), insurance narratives (claims support with treatment justification), and plain-English patient summaries (to support informed consent). All with patient identifiers protected and the whole practice held in a single encrypted, per-company vault.

CQC inspections

Specially since 2024, CQC inspectors are asking about AI use during visits. The question is framework, not avoidance. Practices with a written AI policy (we have a free template), a governed tool, and an audit chain pass cleanly. Apart from this, DPO review (Caldicott Guardian) benefits from the audit chain — we’ve written separately on Caldicott principles and AI.

Other Me for private dental

SCRS — the Secure Context Retrieval System, our patent-pending AI data firewall — is what keeps clinical text safe, and Other Me is the governed workspace built on it for UK private dental practices. PHI redaction before any model sees clinical text, a per-company encrypted vault, Caldicott + GDC-ready audit chain. Workflow on the Private Healthcare and Dental solution page. Get started, and test it on one consultation note this week.
